Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about Kida Jadi — from what it is to how to buy, use and grow it.

General

Kida Jadi (also spelled Keeda Jadi, "insect-herb") is the Himalayan caterpillar fungus Ophiocordyceps sinensis. A parasitic fungus infects a ghost-moth caterpillar underground, mummifies it, and in spring sprouts a slender stalk above the soil — hence the Tibetan name Yartsa Gunbu, "winter-worm, summer-grass."
It earned the nickname "Himalayan Viagra" for its centuries-old reputation as a vitality and libido tonic, and "Himalayan Gold" because top-grade specimens can sell for more than their weight in gold.
Sinensis is the wild Himalayan caterpillar fungus — rare, expensive and mostly wild-harvested. Militaris is a related species that can be cultivated in a lab on a nutrient substrate; it is sustainable, affordable and often higher in the active compound cordycepin.
Cordycepin (3′-deoxyadenosine), adenosine, cordycepic acid (D-mannitol), polysaccharides, beta-glucans and ergosterol are among the key studied compounds.

Usage

Whole pieces are traditionally simmered in water, milk or soup as a decoction, or ground into powder and added to warm milk, tea, coffee or smoothies. Extract capsules offer a convenient measured dose. A common traditional daily amount is roughly 1–3 grams of whole cordyceps, or as directed for extracts.
Many people take it in the morning for daytime energy. It can be taken daily; consistency over several weeks is usually more noticeable than a single dose.
Cordyceps is generally well tolerated. Some people may experience mild digestive upset. It may affect blood sugar, blood clotting and immune activity — see the safety note below.

Safety

As a precaution, avoid or consult a doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an autoimmune condition, a bleeding disorder, are on immunosuppressants or blood thinners, or are scheduled for surgery. Always consult a qualified practitioner for medical conditions.
No. Kida Jadi is a traditional wellness food/tonic. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Scientific evidence in humans is still limited and ongoing.

Authenticity

Genuine wild cordyceps clearly shows two joined parts: a mummified caterpillar body (with visible legs/segments) and a darker fungal stalk. It has an earthy-mushroom aroma. Beware of pieces filled or weighted with wire, or "cordyceps" that is actually only militaris sold as wild sinensis. We lab-verify our sourcing.
Keep it dry, in an airtight container away from heat, light and moisture. Whole dried cordyceps and powder stay best in a cool, dark place; refrigeration extends shelf life. A few dry rice grains or silica help prevent moisture.
